CLIF BAR has long been a leader in using its marketing dollars to support environmental causes through consumer experiences and events. The company sought to increase the value of the many events throughout the year by driving exposure, attendance and then online coverage of the events so that consumers who were not physically near the events could passively participate.

Double Forte conducted media relations campaigns to support several of CLIF BAR’s 2008 corporate social responsibility programs and related events including:

- 2 Mile Challenge: Encouraging bicycling for transportation – GreenNotes: Supporting “green” music tours and environmental clean-ups – Save Our Snow: Campaigning against global warming with an RV running on used vegetable oil

Double Forte’s programs included (1) media outreach; (2) social media; and (3) community mobilization. News, photos and video were distributed via national news wires and supported by proactive media outreach to national and regional media, as well as to bloggers and community-supported coalitions. Media targets ranged from environment beats to related topics including cycling, music, and mobile marketing. Double Forte also included information about these programs in editorial product mailing campaigns to alert reporters who received CLIF product samples on a regular basis. Finally, Double Forte outreached to bloggers and posted event information on social calendars.
